The holiday and a couple of FO's

Warning! This is a very picture heavy post

I’ve been to post about “The Holiday” ever since we got back, but this last week and a bit has been absolutely manic!

Now that things are kind of returning to normal, I have a few minutes to fill you all in. πŸ™‚

We went away for a week to the north of Holland to a lovely place calle Wervershoof. There is a number of what I call ‘river-villages’ and we stayed in a house in one of those. The place was actually very home-ly. It looked out onto a canal/river:

We even had canoes to play around in! πŸ˜€

The boys definitely took advantage of that:

As did little Flynn

This was his first time in the water (apart from baths)! We’re so proud of him πŸ™‚

There was some tug-of-war

and some football

and in Ollie’s case, no football!

Then there was the small beach near-by:

There was no paddling for me, unfortuantely! It was too cold.. and the beach was actually shell not sand.

We went into a few of the villages line Hoorn and Enkhuizen, there were a couple of markets that we wandered around, but with Flynn it was really difficult. He’s still a puupy and this was his first time away from home. Everything was exciting, everything was new and everything needed to be investigated! So we only spent a few hours at a time out and about.

Mind you, in that time, I did find a fantastic, fantastic yarn shop!

It’s Schouten Handwerken owned by a Father and Son team. Wilbert (the son) was absolutely brilliant and really helpful. He did say that even though they don’t have an on-line shop, if you email them, they will try their hardest to help. πŸ˜€ Kai has found a fantastic place to order from!

I bought some Araucania

Some Jitterbug (which I have never ever tried before)

And some Noro Sock Yarn

It’s actually quite rough, so I may use it for something other than socks, we’ll see.

Also, I picked up some buttons and Wilbert was lovely and gave me the little button tin you can see IMG_1048.JPG

And finally a shot of the birdhouse in the garden:

There was some knitting on holiday, honest! I finished a sleeve on the Urban Cardi and I finished a couple of pairs of socks.

Yarn: Knitwitches Sock Yarn 100% BFL in Jade Night (I LOVE THIS YARN!)
Pattern: Loksins from Too Much Wool
Needles 2.5mm Addi Turbos using magic loop

Plain socks for Ollie:

Yarn: Lana Grossa Meilenweit 100 Cotton Fantasy in shade 811
Pattern: Plain stocking stitch
Needles: 2.5mm Addi Turbos using magic loop

And finally, a gratuitous piccie of some ducks:

Thank you to everyone for all of their lovely comments on my patterns.  They’re very much appreciated! πŸ˜€

  1. Wow! Looks like you had a lot of fun….and so did Flynn. He’s adorable!

I can’t believe you even finished two pairs of socks while on holiday! Whew!

Love the yarn purchases! Great colors!

  2. What a great holiday! Looks like fun for the furred and non-furred alike πŸ™‚ (oh yes, and the feathered buds at the end of the post there too!)
I love those positive yarn shop experiences. Looks like you got a great haul. I’ve never used Jitterbug myself, but a friend of mine has (and I’ve pawed at her project, let me tell you!) and it’s very lovely knitted up.
Glad to see you had a good time πŸ™‚
